The park’s landscape is characterized by high plateaus, a labyrinth of narrow, deep, sandstone canyons, and striking rock towers and mesas. The North Fork of the Virgin River has carved a breathtaking gorge in the park called the Zion Narrows, where the canyon walls rise an astonishing 2000–3000 feet above the canyon floor.
